Governor Perry signed the "Castle Doctrine" this afternoon!

On a surprising vote my State Representative actually voted for it. What a shocker that one was!

Castle Doctrine Update

The House and Senate passed the legislation and Governor Perry will sign it today. The rights of Texans to defend themselves is about the only thing Perry has done right lately. Of course as upset as most of his constituents are with his actions lately, not signing this bill might induce a sizeable lynch mob in Austin.

So once the bill goes into effect, Texans will not have to worry about being sued by thug's families after they kill people that decide to break into their house, or carjack them. We also won't have to worry about whether or not we should run from said thugs instead of defending our rights and/or our property.

Hmm, I don't know how to take this.

I sent an email to my Congressman Michael Burgess concerning HR 1022, the new AWB being proposed in the House, and here is the response I got.

Dear Mr. Byrom,

Thank you for contacting me with your opposition to H.R. 1022,
the Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of
2007. I appreciate hearing from you on this important matter.

Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy (D-New York) introduced
H.R. 1022 on February 13, 2007. This bill would revise the
definition of a 'semiautomatic assault weapon' to include
conversion kits (used for converting a firearm to such a weapon)
and any semiautomatic rifle or pistol that has the ability to accept a
detachable magazine and includes specific characteristics including
a telescoping stock. H.R. 1022 would prohibit the transfer of such
a weapon except through a license dealer or state or local law
enforcement agency. Under this legislation the Attorney General
would establish and maintain a record of the make, model and date
of manufacture for any such weapon that has been used in relation
to a crime.

H.R. 1022 was referred to the House Judiciary Committee for
further review. While I am not a member of the House Judiciary
Committee, you may be assured I will keep your views in mind
should H.R. 1022 be brought before the full House for a vote.

Not exactly the rejection of violating my RKBA I was hoping for. I has asked him his position on gun control and never got an answer. This is worrisome obviously. I still don't know where he stands on the issue. It was nice to get a response of some kind though.

Edit: This is a bit encouraging. I wonder why GOA dinged him so bad, while the NRA did not.
